FSSP e-bulletin

May 2010

FSSP news

Diploma consortium training events

The Functional Skills Support Programme is holding three training events for practitioners and managers involved in the delivery of functional skills within a Diploma consortium. We hope you will be able to join us at one of these sessions.

FSSP delivery models

The FSSP is considering the various models that providers have used to deliver functional skills, in order to share good practice. We are engaging with a range of work-based learning, adult and community learning, and college-based providers with the aim of providing a paper that looks into the different provision models that are in use across different provider types.

For each of the 'areas for consideration' we asked the provider for a short description on:
A. What model have you taken for that area, e.g. how have you managed overall planning for functional skills?
B. What other models could you have taken, e.g. how else could you have managed overall planning for functional skills?
C. Your reasons for choosing the model that you described.

These outputs will be available on the website soon.

International FSSP training

Diane Rawlings, a functional skills trainer in the south-west region, will be flying out to Germany in July to train staff delivering functional skills to apprentices at the Ministry of Defence base near Paderborn in Germany.

Awarding organisations accreditation

We will keep you updated on the ongoing accreditation of awarding organisations.

Development projects

The Functional Skills Support Programme has funded 27 development projects, selecting providers from all sectors and regions to work on developing and improving functional skills delivery. These organisations, which included further education colleges, work-based learning, adult and continuing learning, special needs, Diploma consortia and local authorities, each produced materials, information and resources that would benefit other functional skills centres.
