Welcome to the latest edition of the Functional Skills Support Programme (FSSP) bulletin for post-16 education and training providers. April's bulletin includes programme updates and information from across the sector, as well as an overview of a recent network event for FE colleges held in the Yorkshire and Humber region.

Work-based learning events

During March we held three national events to introduce the new 'Functional Skills in Work-Based Learning' publication. These events introduced the publication and provided opportunities for practitioners to discuss their experiences in delivering functional skills and build up a work-based learning network. People found the opportunity to network with their peers particularly helpful.

Development project materials - coming soon

The Functional Skills Support Programme enabled 27 providers from all sectors and regions to support work in developing functional skills delivery. Each project was tasked with producing resources that would aid the sector in delivering functional skills from September 2010.

We will keep you updated on the ongoing accreditation of awarding organisations.

Case study

Yorkshire and the Humber FE network meeting

On 13 April, the second Yorkshire and the Humber FE network meeting took place at Askham Bryan College, York. Representation in the network from all FE colleges by senior managers is being established - so far 10 of the region's FE colleges are represented.

Open sessions
We are holding open training sessions on a number of topics for practitioners preparing for delivery of functional skills. Open sessions last 2-3 hours and include functional skills in the context of Diplomas, Apprenticeships and Foundation Learning, as well as specific sessions on functional skills for consortia.
